How to get a ChatGPT chat into Word or Google Docs without breaking the formatting

Quick answer: click Export in the chat and choose Word for a .docx file — or choose Copy → "with formatting" and paste into Google Docs, Word or Notion with headings and tables kept.

Why copy-paste goes wrong

Pasting straight from the chat page often loses table borders, turns formulas into raw LaTeX like \frac{a}{b}, and drops line breaks in code.

The one-click way

  1. Install AI Chat Exporter: ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini (free).
  2. Open the chat on chatgpt.com, claude.ai or gemini.google.com.
  3. Click Export , choose Word and click the big button.

The .docx uses Word's own equation editor for formulas, real tables, headings you can navigate, and code blocks in a monospaced font.

Into Google Docs

Choose Copy → with formatting, then paste into a Google Doc: headings, bold text, links, bordered tables and code blocks come along (formulas paste as LaTeX text, which Google Docs can't turn into equations).

Is it private?

Yes. The file is made on your own computer, inside your browser. No chat content is sent to us — there is no CarryAll server. No account, no analytics, no ads. Details in the privacy policy.

Questions

Can I edit the equations in Word?

Yes. They are real Word equations, not pictures.

Does it work for Claude and Gemini too?

Yes, on claude.ai and gemini.google.com as well.

Is there a watermark?

Free files carry one small "Exported with CarryAll" line at the bottom.

I made this extension (CarryAll). The manual ways above work without it — use whichever suits you.
